A virtual reality (VR) attraction themed on the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise will compete at the Venice Virtual Realty program at the 76th Venice Film Festival.
The prestigious film fest will be held until Sept. 7.
“Ghost in the Shell: Ghost Chaser” is the first Japanese work to be selected for the program, which was established in 2017 to present the Best VR, Best VR Experience (for interactive content) and Best VR Story (for linear content) prizes.
Directed by Hiroaki Higashi, the VR attraction is offered at the hexaRide section inside the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza commercial complex in the capital’s Odaiba waterfront district.
Sporting VR headsets, riders can play the role of a member of Public Security Section 9, led by Motoko Kusanagi, and help fight off rebel forces.
