LG has confirmed that it will debut two mid-range smartphones at the upcoming IFA consumer electronics event in Berlin next month.

The K50S and K40S according to LG, would complement its competitive line of attractively priced smartphones. The two phones have flagship features and are designed for multimedia users — equipped with more cameras, larger screen displays, and bigger batteries.

Both phones are said to meet the U.S. military MIL-STD-810G standard. In short, this duo can deliver the best performance even under extreme conditions.

The K50S sports a bigger 6.5-inch screen with a waterdrop notch, while the K40S has a 6.1-inch panel. Both offer full definition display with FullVision.

Core Specs And Flagship Features

The K50S is packed with a triple camera module with a regular 13 MP shooter complemented by a 5 MP super-wide-angle lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor. As for the K40S, it will sport the horizontal dual camera setup with the two camera lenses but without the depth sensor. The Depth Sensor produces a clearer separation between subject and background when shooting portraits for a more realistic depth of field.

The K50S is powered by a decent 4,000 mAh battery, while the K40S goes slightly smaller with a 3,500 mAh cell. LG’s spec sheet did not mention about any fast-charging capabilities of the two phones but said the optimized batteries can ensure lengthy sessions of multimedia use between charges.

Extra features on the two phones include a DTS:X 3D Surround Sound support, rear fingerprint scanners, and a useful Google Assistant button. Both phones will have the Android 9.0 Pie OS. They are powered by MediaTek Helio P22 SoCs, with up to 3 GB RAM, and feature 32 GB expandable storage capacity.

‘Combat-ready’ phones

Meeting the U.S. military standard for durability means the two phones can handle plenty of drops and withstand the rigors of daily wear and tear before it gets any damage.

“With enhanced screens and more versatile cameras, the K50S and K40S represent exceptional value that demonstrate LG’s commitment to putting consumers’ needs first,” said Morris Lee, senior vice president at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

The two phones will be available in October and will come in two colors — Moroccan Blue and Aurora Black. No pricing was mentioned but LG said that both will have friendlier prices.

LG’s smartphone sales during second quarter were 21.3 percent lower compared to last year. The company has blamed the lower sales on stagnant demand in the smartphone market and aggressive pricing by Chinese smartphone makers.
