A Canadian medical products maker plans to open an $84 million plant in Buffalo that would create more than 88 jobs in Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park.

Thinking Robot Studios, based in Nova Scotia, customizes and produces devices using industrial 3D printing, according to New York Power Authority documents. The new facility, to be located on a 22-acre site in South Buffalo, is expected to open in fall 2020, making devices such as orthopedic implants and systems for bone and joint reconstruction.

The company was approved for a 2-megawatt allocation of low-cost hydropower by the Power Authority. The allocation is for 10 years.

The Power Authority said Thinking Robot Studios plans to start construction of its plant next month. The 88 permanent, full-time jobs at the plant are expected to have average compensation and benefits of more than $130,000.
