technology has arrived in a big way.
The majority (69%) of U.S. households now own at least one smart home device, based on a new study.
That translates to 83 million households and of
those, 18% or 22 million homes, own more than one smart home product, according to the study by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
Audio video products are the most prevalent at a 56%
ownership level followed by home networking (34%), home security (33%), energy management (21%) and lighting (15%).
The top products currently owned include smart entertainment devices, owned
by 45% of households, wireless speakers without voice assistants (26%), smart speakers with voice assistants (25%), smart smoke detectors (17%), monitored security systems (17%), smart thermostats
(14%) and video doorbells (12%).
Over the next 12 months, a third (33%) of consumers plan to purchase a home security product, 28% an audio video one, 19% home networking and 18% lighting,
according to CTA.
The flood of smart home devices is likely to continue. Worldwide shipments of devices are expected to reach 815 million this year, climbing to 1.4 billion in 2025, according
to the International Data Corporation (IDC).
The 31% of U.S. households without any smart home products is a shrinking number.
