Smart hubs no longer need to be a sperate unit that you have to find some way to hide or blend in with your home. Manufacturers continue to find new ways to build hub solutions into other products that aren’t always what they seem. From smart speakers to touch screens on a wall.

Companies like Ezlo have been working to push things even further, allowing hub solutions to squeeze into even smaller places and the Ezlo PlugHub Energy is a perfect example of this.

The Ezlo PlugHub Energy is a small smart plug that is now part of the Vera family of products, a brand under the growing Ezlo umbrella. In fact, it is small enough to take up one outlet without blocking the one above it (unlike some other smart plug solutions that can be a bit greedy for space).

It allows you to control devices you have plugged into it via your smart home setup. It can also provide you when energy usage of said devices, so that you can better understand your utility bill at the end of the month. Typically, most smart plugs end here when it comes to features. Many of which don’t even offer energy monitoring. Ezlo PlugHub Energy, however, also acts as your hub.

 

This means you can build out a network of smart devices beginning with this little plug as the brain. It can control everything else that is compatible with Vera (ie, Z-Wave, Zigbee). It offers integration with things like Alexa thanks to the Vera software and can be accessed via your mobile device for deeper configuration (ie, scenes, triggers, devices, etc).

All of this for just a $39.95 price tag. Not too bad at all.

It is supposed to be available for pre-order, although we haven’t found out where just yet. It looks like they will likely start shipping around the first part of 2020.
